The Peru Program
The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation's mission is to strategically donate orchards where the need is greatest and the harvest will best serve communities for generations. One such place is deep Peruvian Amazon, where the threat of deforestation is ever-present without sustainable conservation programs to prevent logging. Fruit trees offer this solution. Families often lack the resources to gain horticultural training and our programs offer both the trees and training to ensure a fruitful future.
Program History
In 2018, we teamed up with local nonprofit CONAPAC to launch an innovative program to provide families living in rural Amazon river areas with fruit trees and training in their planting and care. Assistance with marketing efforts are also underway so that harvest will provide both nutrition and revenue for families whose income is often less than fifty U.S. dollars a month. The project will promote conservation efforts by planting more trees in areas that are vulnerable to deforestation.
"Seeing a child plant a tree, and knowing that tree will live to be 100 years old, is a really powerful act.
— Mark Hockley, past-volunteer in El Salvador
We Need You
We invite you to join us by volunteering for a week-long fruit tree planting and eco-adventure. Activities include planting trees with schools and communities while interacting with families in several different villages. You'll also have a chance to receive training from FTPF staff to advance your own tree planting skills. We will travel by boat together to the villages, several hours up the beautiful Amazon and Napo rivers! Monkeys and rainforest canopy walks await you, with comfortable lodging along the way. To embark on this unforgettable, lifechanging experience, apply via the form at the following link: www.ftpf.org/peru.htm. If selected, a payment of $1650 secures your spot, including the events listed below, as well as accommodations, and local transport by land and water. Airfare, meals, and all other costs are the volunteer’s responsibility.
